Whichever instrument you play (or if you sing), when you reach the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Grade 5 level, you will have to pass their Theory of Music exam (at Grade 5) before you are allowed to progress further. A pass in grade 5 ABRSM theory is also usually required by many schools for students wishing to take A Level Music. The exam is not too difficult, but without proper preparation many students do find it tricky. Sadly, many leave studying for the exam until they reach grade 5 (or even higher) on their instruments or voice, meaning that having to pass grade 5 theory could be a barrier preventing them from taking the higher practical grades. If you are in this situation, don't worry! You're in good company and we can work together to pass the exam. If you haven't reached grade 5 on your instrument or voice yet, start your music theory lessons now to avoid the rush later.
